USAOutdoorTFChampionshipsEDITOR'S NOTE: AnnGaff and LesleyHiggins are writing these previews for the USA Track & Field Championships, taking place this weekend in Eugene, OR, based on their firsthand Track & Field experience.  Gaffigan and Higgins competed against each other in college, with Gaffigan representing the Nebraska Huskers and Higgins representing the Colorado Buffs. Both women competed last year in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Olympic Trials.  This year, the two are spectators-from-afar of the USATF Championships/World Team Trials; Higgins is out with a broken foot and Gaffigan gave birth to a baby girl in May.

100m Hurdles:

1st Round: Saturday, June 27 at 3:55pm
Semi-Final: Sunday, June 28 at 12:00pm
Final: Sunday, June 28 at 2:22pm

Top 5 entry times:

Lolo Jones 12.43
Damu Cherry 12.48
Dawn Harper 12.56
Kellie Wells 12.58
Danielle Carruthers 12.73

My picks:

1. Damu Cherry
2. Danielle Carruthers
3. Dawn Harper

Cherry (pictured left at the 2008 Olympic Trials) and Carruthers are currently ranked #2 and #3 in the World, behind only my friend and former Husker teammate Priscilla Lopes-Shliep of Canada.  Beijing Gold Medalist Harper is running well this season too, garnering wins at big meets such as Kingston and the Adidas Track Classic.  Although I would love to see Lolo Jones pull out a win or at least grab a spot on the US Team, I'm worried that her hamstring is not going to hold up.  Jones pushed herself to race at the Drake Relas in April despite a tender hammy and cold and rainy conditions.  She "heard something pop" and slowed down, grabbing the back of her leg, before the eighth hurdle and was golf-carted off the track.  Since that day, she has only been able to do pool work.  Guess that's what you get for fulfilling your promise of showing up to perform in front of your hometown crowd.  I hope Lolo proves me wrong today.  I also wouldn't be surprised to see Michelle Perry sneak up and grab a team spot.
