Foot Locker Inc. has recently announced that they will close 117 stores in the coming weeks. The athletic retailer and sneaker giant made the move in order to strengthen brand positioning, re-organize and focus more on the female consumer.

The Company will change its organizational structure by consolidating the management team that oversees the Lady Foot Locker business with the team that currently manages the Foot Locker U.S., Kids Foot Locker and Footaction businesses.

According to the press release, President and CEO Ken Hicks said, "We expect the consolidation of our of our Foot Locker businesses under the direction of one management team to help us clarify our Foot Locker family of brands in the retail marketplace. It will allow us to sharpen our focus on the female consumer, as we look to improve the coordination of our women's merchandise assortments and marketing strategies across each of our Foot Locker brands."

There's no word yet on exactly what the company plans to do, in order to adhere more to their female consumer. Instead, they have indicated quite simply that this move will "help lady shoppers in need of a new pair of sneakers."

The store closings are likely due to a lagging economy as well, though the company has also not revealed how many jobs will be lost.
