She also made history by being the first woman to be mentioned positively in an article in the Sporting News. I'm joking. Sort of. Kelly Kulick was the subject of one my very earliest posts, now no longer extant, in which I compared her career trajectory favorably with that of Michelle Wie. Kulick, I wrote, bowled against men because she had to, not as a kind of sideshow. Later, I considerably softened my stance. The choices are too difficult for women athletes, and there's no right way to try and chart success in the face of major obstacles. Kulick's path has paid off for her, as she's become not only the first woman to win on the PBA Tour but also the winner of the Tournament of Champions, a major (with a 265). Now, having been awarded an exemption, she has to decide whether or how to combine bowling on both the men's and the women's tour. Watch the post-game interview here.
