So many reasons to complain that Title IX isn't good enough, so many instances in which segregation of sports based upon gender and continued unequal funding have hurt young, female athletes. But today isn't about that. I wanted to list out plainly why Title IX is awesome.

Because women and girls deserve equal access to sports and sports education.

Because women are physically , mentally and emotionally capable to compete in athletics, just like men.

Because girls deserve to learn they truly can do anything a man does.

Because athletics promote health and enhance learning.

Because athletics provide confidence- women and girls deserve access to confidence building activities.

Because women and girls can make friendships or connections to lead them to successful career paths.

Because college and high school scholarships should be equally available to girls and boys.

Because taking interest in things other than what society deems "girly" is necessary for gender equity.

Because women and girls deserve money for college .

Because equality in sports , at least the inklings of it, lead to great social gender equity.

Because sports and athletics are fun and exciting.

Because gender norms and stereotypes can be dispelled when more girls and women become involved in traditionally male activities.

Because even those who don't excel physically at athletics (me!) , can learn an appreciation and love for sports .

Because Title IX is a major crack in the glass ceiling.

Well the educational component of Title 9 was successful; women now have equal educational opportunities as men... which should be the main and only purpose of title 9. The glass ceiling in 2010 you can't be serious?

In terms of sports Title 9 is antiquated and costly. It's antiquated because at most schools now their are more women then men, meaning to comply their needs to be more slots for women than ever before... leading into the 2nd point, costly. We all know non major sports lose money for athletic departments (read: all women's sports and men's sports excluding Basketball, Football, and depending on the school hockey or baseball). In fact most athletic departments lose money... requiring them to be subsidized by either donors, or indirectly tax payers for public institutions.

So the question in this economic time is should we as tax payers be forced to pay for sports like Women's field hockey, Water polo, Ice Hockey etc that will until the end of time lose money... These sports bring in nothing positive to a university unlike major men's sports. The purpose of college athletics to bring interest and money to the university which without a doubt happens for major college football and basketball programs, see Notre Dame.

Since 1991 6,000 athletic opportunities have been added for women while 20,000 have been cut for men, is that equity? Men's wrestling is almost non existent now? is that equity.

"Because girls deserve to learn they truly can do anything a man does." Isn't that an issue of parenting, not something the government should be regulating? And by watching women's vs men's basketball... saying that women can do anything men can do as far as most sports, well it's just not true... and doesn't have to be... not sure why people can't just be happy saying I'm good for a woman, most top female atheletes are fine with that, why can't the general publc be.
