President Barack Obama honored the 2009 WNBA Champion Phoenix Mercury for their accomplishments both on and off the court at a ceremony at the White House on Monday, July 19, 2010.

“I live with three tall, good-looking women who are quite competitive  and push me around under the boards all the time,” said Obama when talking about the positive influence of women like the Mercury. “I want  Malia and Sasha to know there is absolutely no contradiction between  women who are beautiful and healthy and contributing and athletic and  competitive.”
