Former South Carolina forward Kayla Brewer is set to transfer to Texas. Longhorns head coach Gail Goestenkors announced the transfer Thursday. Brewer will enroll in classes at Texas for the spring semester.
“Kayla is an outstanding student-athlete who will excel both on the court and in the classroom,” said Goestenkors in a statement. “She will add athleticism and versatility to our team with her ability to play both inside and out.”
Per NCAA transfer rules, the 6-foot-1 Brewer will be permitted to practice with the Longhorns but she will not be able to participate in games or travel with the team.
From Texassports.com:
Brewer graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Fla., a year early as the class salutatorian to join the Gamecock program for the 2010-11 season. She played in seven games for South Carolina, averaging 13.9 minutes per game. Brewer turned in 3.1 rebounds and 1.3 points per game while recording a season-best seven points and eight rebounds, including four offensive, at Penn State on Nov. 21.
Ranked as the eighth-best player and second-best forward in the 2011 class by ESPNU, Brewer was a three-time All-Gateway Conference selection in high school and named All-State First Team and Class Acts Scholar Athlete by Florida Union Times. The three-time all-state selection, including first-team honors as a junior and senior, participated in U16 and U17 Team Trials in 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Two top Univ of SC women basketball players have left the team, Kelcie Bone for Texas AandM and Kayla Brewer for Texas, Is there a personality problem the coach of the Univ of SC women's BB team and the players or is it the players are so spoil that they all want stardom and want to be the face of the basketball program. Also the WNBA is a very small PRO basketball league...what gives

Can someone answer this. It seems to me that now that more and more women are playing basketball, more and more women are transfering from one college to another in the hope to find a coach that will give them more playing time. More and more girls dream of playing PRO-Ball say the "WNBA." We need a minimum 20 team women PRO-League for women. Also with a larger POR-League, all the women won't have to go over seas looking for opportunity
