Hope everyone had a positive and productive week. Over the past few weeks I have been training harder than I ever have, in a new training group and working on building a company all at the same time. Training and starting a company are both extremely difficult, alone, so just imagine I’m trying to do both at the same time.
Since I am working on building a company, I have been reading a lot of business articles and entrepreneurial articles. An article I read today was very interesting. It was a post that moved me as both an Entrepreneur and Athlete. The post was The 2 Most Important Rules for Entrepreneurs, posted by @JohnMuldoon , below is a link to the post.
The article talks about two important rules and although the writer applied it to Entrepreneurs, one of the rules applies to athletics, aswell. The rule he mentions is to create more than you consume. Now what does that mean? It means basically that you should do more work or put out more of your own content, or just focus on achieving your goals more than you focus on what someone has produced or someone else’s content. People can get caught up in what other people are doing, and loose sight of their own dreams, especially with all of this Reality TV. Some examples of opportunities to consume he used in his article are, “…reality TV, Facebook, games on your phone, 24-hour news networks…” just to name a few. While creating, “you have to make stuff. Whether it’s software, or food, iPads, advice, gourmet spices, an electric car, or even a blog post…entrepreneurs are defined by what we create.”
Now I know you may be sitting there thinking, huh, ok interesting but how does athletics fit in this picture? It fits because for us to improve and succeed in athletics we cannot be consumers. We cannot just sit around watching sporting events, looking at results, or watch ESPN seeing what other athletes are doing, CONSUMING information. Although, it may be helpful it is not going to get us where we want to go or position us, to be successful. We must train, compete, get treatment, fuel our bodies, along with a host of other things, in order to CREATE our opportunity for success, CREATE our RESULTS. We must “do stuff” to produce results, because athletes like Entrepreneurs, are defined by the RESULTS we CREATE…
