3 Things I learned from the CrossFit Games 2015

Look What Women Can Do Now

1) I was blown away not just by what the Individual women of CrossFit Games 2015 accomplished especially starting off in the ocean and then completing “Murph” with wearing a 14 lb vest, but what the Teenage division and the Masters divisions did. The image and idea of what women are capable of at any age is being blown apart and it is exciting. Just take a look back at where women have been in other sports and then take a look at how quickly women have developed in the sport of CrossFit. I definitely see a cross over of new confidence for female athletes everywhere and in every sport.

2) Dave Castro will always push the limits.

Yes, it may be for entertainment and money, or maybe he is just sadistic, but people do CrossFit to push the limits of the mind, body, and spirit so that they can accomplish something that they have never accomplished before. To train and compete is a choice, there are no guarantees simply because you put the hours in or won it before, that you will win it this year. This means there will be days that those we thought were the best and untouchable will falter. The true title of a Champion is earned by those that get back up again and again to face their fears and weaknesses relentlessly. They must also be adaptable. There are many waiting in line for the opportunity to wear the crown of “Fittest in the World,” you must always remember that.

3) Internet Live Event Streaming is Better than Network Broadcasting.

Regionals was great to see every event and every competitor. It was recorded for playback when fans wanted to see it if they were not able to watch the competition at the broadcasted time. What do we get with network broadcasting that everyone was so excited about? DVR recordings of three hours of the wrong sport recorded, the last minute hassle trying to find various versions of the channels you thought you had a subscription to and app downloads that don’t quite work on your mobile device. No, you don’t get to see every event in order and every single competitor because it is not ratings worthy and they don’t have time to fit in all the inspirational interviews and sponsor ads if they did. It is a struggle of a growing sport to stay true to the diehard fans or go with the progress of fast growth.

You cannot please everyone, all the time, and that is with every aspect of life. We do want we want because we love it. CrossFitters don’t need you to understand. We do what we do and yes sometimes we cry, throw up and bleed all at the same time and come back the next day. Call us masochists, but the trend is spreading. Others are out there that want to push the limits and be more capable than they were yesterday.
