USAOutdoorTFChampionshipsEDITOR'S NOTE: AnnGaff and LesleyHiggins are writing these previews for the USA Track & Field Championships, taking place this weekend in Eugene, OR, based on their firsthand Track & Field experience.  Gaffigan and Higgins competed against each other in college, with Gaffigan representing the Nebraska Huskers and Higgins representing the Colorado Buffs. Both women competed last year in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Olympic Trials.  This year, the two are spectators-from-afar of the USATF Championships/World Team Trials; Higgins is out with a broken foot and Gaffigan gave birth to a baby girl in May.

Top 5 entry marks:

Hyleas Fountain 6667
Diana Pickler 6257
Virginia Johnson 6247
Sharon Day 6063
Lela Nelson 5898

My picks:

1. Hyleas Fountain
2. Diana Pickler
3. Sharon Day

From USATF.org (because I couldn't say it any better):

"2008 Olympic silver medalist Hyleas Fountain (pictured left) leads the field in the women's heptathlon. She had an impressive season in 2008 that saw her set a personal best 6,667 points at the Olympic Trials, become the only American woman not named Jackie Joyner-Kersee ever to win an Olympic medal in the heptathlon, and ended her season ranked #2 in the world by T&FN."

My pick for the 2nd and 3rd World Team spots are 2008 Olympian and 2009 Indoor Pentathlon champ Diana Pickler and 2008 high jump Olympian Sharon Day. Day qualified for the high jump World Team on Thursday and is performing well so far in Day 1 of the Heptathlon.
