If you are the WPS, you really don't want to irritate any fan dedicated enough to actually be on the website for the expansion draft. Yet the forums indicate that the diehards were pretty pissed off that the draft wasn't announced pick-by-pick in real time. This didn't seem to be a well thought through move by the league, which needed to do something with the excitement it generated for the draft, especially given that many if not most observers think it's expanding too fast anyway. There was also grumbling that teams' protected lists weren't officially publicized, although the Washington Post, one of the few metro dailies that has always cared about its women's soccer team, did manage to obtain the Freedom's list. Some complaints even came with sexism in tow: the league kept the lists confidential beacuse it didn't want to hurt the "girls' " feelings. Whether this sexism is something the league is being accused of or it stems from the posters is unclear. Before I posted such a comment, I might consider the following: we don't know whether teams that chose not to publicize their lists to the press also kept them from the players. There are sound business reasons for a team to keep its deals in the back room. There are even reasons for a team to keep the news from all the potentially available picks in case they aren't chosen and it's stuck with them (aaaaawwwwwkward).
