Justine Henin beats Nadia Petrova in Cairo Tennis exhibition
Justine Henin defeated Nadia Petrova 76 62 in an exhibition match in Cairo, this past weekend.
Henin, a former world number 1 who is returning to the WTA Sony Ericsson Tennis Tour, is getting ready for her comeback to the professional competition next month.
Henin topped Petrova in 11 of their previous 13 meetings, and the early exchanges made it seem the same result was at hand. But Petrova showed her class in a hard-fought first set as she displayed a series of powerful groundstrokes to force a tie-break.
Henin’s experience and her skill on clay proved to be the difference and allowed her to claim the first set 7-4 in the tie break.
The second set was less competitive. Petrova made too many unforced errors and failed to get back into the match. Henin had no problems to take the second set as she scored a confidence-boosting victory ahead of her return to Grand Slam tennis.
