Venus Williams new member of the Dream Team for Public Service

Venus Williams was chosen to be a member of the Dream Team for Public Service, NFL legend Ronnie Lott’s team for the Jefferson Award for Public Service.
The 10 Dream Team winners recognized are top athletes who have given back to their community.

Williams will join other great athletes in New York on December 8 at the third annual Sports Business and Philanthropy Luncheon. Two final top winners will be honored at the national Jefferson Awards ceremony June 22 in Washington, D.C.

“These champions represent a wide swath of success both on and off the playing field, and we are very excited to be able to honor this group,” Lott said. “The real winners in this process are the millions of people that all these athletes have assisted in community service. It is an honor for us to recognize this group and assist all of them in their very noble endeavors.”

The final 10 members of the Dream Team include Lauryn Williams, Curtis Granderson, Dwight Howard and Dirk Nowitzki, and Justin Tuck. Fan voting for the final 10 was conducted online and via text message, with over 25,000 votes logged during the process.

Past Jefferson Awards winners include Oprah Winfrey, Alan Greenspan, Peyton Manning, Colin Powell, Lance Armstrong, Barbara Bush and Bill and Melinda Gates, amongst others.

Congratulations Venus!!

Well, it's great to see Venus given such a great honor for public service but I would like to see them get more involved in promoting more minorities in becoming tennis players. We know they love education but it is Tennis that made them and they should try to give back more into developing more minority women tennis players so that when they are gone we will still enjoy the game. We luv you V and S but you have to give back to tennis to fulfill the legacy.
