Quick Analysis: "WNBA Champion & Six-Time WNBA All-Star Taj McWilliams Signs With Liberty"

After trading starter Cathrine Kraayveld to the Chicago Sky in the deal to get Cappie Pondexter and drafting three guards, the New York Liberty finally addressed their biggest need in signing Taj McWilliams: offensive rebounding.

Although McWilliams has been on the decline in recent years, she is a much better offensive rebounder than Cathrine Kraayveld by percentage. However, another significant benefit to McWilliams is that she is much more of an interior presence than Kraayveld -- while Kraayveld had a 2 point percentage of 37.5% in 2009, McWilliams had a 2 point percentage of 50.74%. In addition, she was one of the best passing interior players in the league last year by the assist rate (22.07% - higher than Ashley Houts' college rate) and pure point rating. Overall, the signing is a plus for New York.
