As though this has been in doubt for any extended period of time, the Seattle Storm have officially clinched a playoff berth with the Los Angeles Sparks' loss on ESPN, as described by Kevin Pelton of StormBasketball.com.
Storm Clinches a Playoff Berth « StormTracker - The Official Blog of the Seattle Storm
By virtue of the Indiana Fever’s 76-57 win over the Los Angeles Sparks at Conseco Fieldhouse, the Storm has become the first team to clinch a spot in the 2010 WNBA Playoffs. This is the Storm’s seventh consecutive trip to the playoffs. Only the Shock (2003-09) boasts an active streak that goes back longer.
They are also on pace to not only set the record for best record by a WNBA team, but also for any professional sports franchise in Seattle sports history:
STORM: Resilient Storm Returns Home
Even bigger milestones are looming. With another win, the Storm will tie the 1998 and 2000 Houston Comets for the best start in WNBA history. In 1998, the Comets began the season 20-1 before suffering their second defeat in their 22nd game. Two more wins would also allow the Storm to match the best start ever by any Seattle pro sports team. The 1980 NASL Sounders hold the record, having started 21-2 (see the bottom of this article for the best starts by various Seattle teams).
Next up: the Western Conference regular season title with four more wins.
So moving to the next matter of uncertainty: who would the Storm want as a first round matchup? Or does it even matter?
Poll Who would the Storm want to face in the first round?
