A (usually) humorous look at sports written by popular parent bloggers and some of their friends.

Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram Jr’s. father had his prison sentence extended by 27 months as a punishment for jumping bail. Of course he was jumping bail to attempt to watch his son play in the Sugar Bowl in 2009. He got caught in a hotel room in Michigan.

Mark Ingram Sr. is a football star in his own right. He won a Super Bowl while playing wide receiver for The New York Giants. The first Mark Ingram (well, not the first Mark Ingram ever, just the first Mark Ingram out of these two) has been a Miami Dolphin, a Philadelphia Eagle, a Green Bay Packer, a counterfeiter and one of America’s Most Wanted fugitives.Picture 26

On one hand if you have already been found guilty of money laundering and tax fraud maybe you should start turning your life around immediately.

On the other hand, if you are already sentenced to seven years and eight months, what is another year and change? Especially for your son and namesake?

I hate it that so many former professional athletes end up as convicted felons. I would love to sit here and make fun of Mark Ingram Sr. all day long, but I can’t. You see, I am also a parent and there is no question in my mind that I would make the same choice if one of my children were playing in a major bowl game.

I would jump bail if one of my kids skinned their knee and needed a kiss.

Mark Ingram Sr. is a pretty crappy citizen, but at least he was trying to be a good father. I can’t help but give the man some credit for that.
