The French Open begins in less than three weeks and Justine Henin is said to be the female player to beat. Her long list of accomplishments includes 42 victories with the WTA, 7 Grand Slam titles and a gold medal from the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. The Belgian born player retired from the WTA in the 2008 season but returned earlier this year. In only her second tournament back, an unseeded Henin made it to the finals of the Australian Open. And she just picked up her first comeback win in Stuttgart, Germany which moved her back up to no. 19 in the rankings. Henin has won four of her Grand Slams on clay making her the favorite as she hits the court in Roland Garros.
So what did Henin do during her 16-month retirement? In an effort to "find herself" outside of the world of tennis, Justin became a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF. She also dedicated herself to her own assocation called Justine for Kids, a Belgian charity which aims to increase funding for projects that will bring comfort and joy to sick children and their families.
Although her charitable work continues, Henin couldn't stay away from the game she loves. And she has made her comeback in three stripes, with the help of Adidas. Henin remained an Adidas brand ambassador even during her retirement and the brand was equally as supportive of her. Keep an eye out for Henin as she continues her impressive comeback run.
Justine Henin is Who's Haute.
