I’m only kidding... They are the 2010 National Champions though. I have never been more impressed watching a team before. I got to see the Huskies play in the Sweet 16 and the only word I can come up with to describe the way they execute to perfection is impressive. This may have been an ugly Championship game tonight, but a win is a win, and this game being ugly doesn’t take away from the incredible season they’ve had.
But boy was it ugly. Connecticut scored only 12 points in the first half… the lowest halftime total in school history. Stanford led 20-12 at half, making this the second time they led the Huskies at half but went on to lose the game.
Connecticut has now won 78 games straight in back-to-back perfect seasons. Geno Auriemma said in the post-game interview that he was pretty much speechless at halftime, but now he couldn’t say enough about how special this group of girls is and how happy he is for them.
Maya Moore said the thing she hopes people remember about her team is that they are “a program that truly loves the game, that plays their heart out every single game and has fun doing it.” And they are no doubt, one of the best and most dominant sports teams, ever.
