River City Rollergirls host DC All-Stars on Saturday, April 24DC-area roller derby fans have the opportunity this Saturday to support the DC Rollergirls All-Stars team in an away bout in Richmond, Virginia. On Saturday, April 24 the All-Stars will take on Poe's Punishers of the River City Rollergirls. The All-Stars are hoping to increase their number of wins this weekend after last month's trip to Pennsylvania. On Saturday, March 13, DC lost to Dutchland (Lancaster, PA) 64-156, but came back with a vengeance on Sunday, March 14, punishing H.A.R.D. (Harrisburg, PA) 230-75. On that same Sunday, River City took an even more serious beating from Charm City (Baltimore, MD) 22-409.

The Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) releases quarterly team rankings within each of four regions across the United States. Fourth-quarter WFTDA rankings of 2009 put the DC travel team ninth in the Eastern region. However, recent player swapping among the Pennsylvania teams will likely show a change in the rankings in first quarter 2010 for Dutchland (12th) and H.A.R.D. (10th). River City Rollergirls are newer members of WFTDA, so they were not yet ranked at that time. Teams must play at least two WFTDA-sanctioned bouts within a quarter to be eligible to be ranked in their region.

Bouts from April through June are critical to teams that have their sights set on making it to their regional tournament in the Fall. Only the top ten teams of each region from WFTDA's second quarter rankings are invited to play in their regional tournament. For more details, see "3) For WFTDA teams, calendar month matters" in DNN Releases First Power Rankings of 2010 published by Derby News Network on March 5, 2010.

This weekend's bout will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Exhibit Hall B. Doors open at 6:00 pm; action starts at 6:30 pm. Tickets are $12; kids 6-12 $6; under age 6 get in free. Are you near Richmond? Plan a road trip! Support your DC All-Stars! You can never get enough roller derby!
