Despite an almost complete lack of midfield possession for most of the game, Abily as a non-factor, and Sinclair scoring the second goal so far offside she was in the next county, there were many positives in FC Gold Pride's 3-1 win over Sky Blue yesterday evening. Sky Blue had the ball a miniscule percentage of the time and scored a flukey goal. Kelley O'Hara seems to be adjusting well to the pro game and to have developed a rapport with Marta. Sinclair actually worked for the ball on occasions, something we rarely saw last season. The defensive corps, if a bit unorganized, is deep and fast. With some tweaking here and there, and real dedication to working on the midfield (which if absolutely necessary could include moving O'Hara back), this could be a good team.

The move to the East Bay and the new preponderance of night games has also precipitated a change in fan make-up. The crowd seemed more friendly and relaxed than in Santa Clara. We were sitting behind a man who attended the game with his teenaged son, and both were incredibly engaged and enthusiastic. When the to move to the team's new full-time stadium happens, everyone should be even more excited to get out of the CVHS stands.... Photo: Kelley Cox/ISI.
