SwinGeno.jpgPreparation for the World Championships in September in Czech Republic means Seattle is knocked out of the running for a WNBA All-Star game, again. Hartford Courant reporter/blogger John Altavilla posted earlier today that the WNBA and USA Basketball will play another All-Star game against each other, this time at Mohegan Sun Arena.

You can bank on it since the WNBA has called media around the country to setup interviews on Wednesday with all involved, including WNBA president Donna Orender.

The Mohegan Sun Arena has hosted the WNBA's All-Star game three times, including this summer. The first was in 2005 and last year's event was particularly memorable because of five former Connecticut players spread between the East and West rosters. Storm F Swin Cash (pictured right by the Associated Press), who won two NCAA titles at UConn, was named the game's MVP.

Orender said in 2009 it's a possibility Connecticut could always host the game because of the success the league has at the venue (plus limited costs in producing the event). But she also said cities like Seattle would be considered.

The WNBA didn't have a traditional All-Star game in 2004, pairing Team USA Olympians against WNBA stars in a game at Radio City.

Phoenix is the only Western Conference city to host the illustrious game. The West won 73-61 in 2000 before an announced crowd of 17,717.
