The Euroleage Women competition brings together 24 teams from around the domestic leagues in Europe. After elimination in the first round the serious stuff begins with the play-offs where 16 teams fight for the crown of European club champion.
Although Diana Taurasi took it easy with 7 points but 10 assists, Janel Mc Carville and Sylvia Fowles scored 22 and 21 points respectively as 3-time defending European champion Spartak Moscow beat Polish club Lotos Gdynia (98-49) in game one of best of 3 series.
Cappy Poindexter led the other Russian giants Ekaterinburg with 12 points to victory against Galatasaray (79-55) while Olympian Tamika Catchings made her oversees debut this season for the loosing team.
In Spain Becky Hammon scored 10 points and dished out 7 assists in Ros Casares victory (81-70) against Lindsay Whalen's (13 points) team ZVVZ Prague USK.
Game two of the eighth final will take place on Friday, February, 5 2010.
