carano_haywireMany MMA fighters have made the crossover to film. Now that the boys have had their turn, it’s time for MMA’s princess of pain to take the spotlight.

Gina Carano, after being handed her first career defeat by Cris Cyborg, was cast by film director Steven Soderbergh to star in a spy thriller.

Originally called “Knockout”, the film has since been changed it “Haywire.” Carano is joined onscreen by a great supporting cast – Michael Douglas, Dennis Quaid, Ewan McGregor, Bill Paxton, Antonio Banderas and Channing Tatum.

Plotline: Mallory Kane (Carano) is a tough, beautiful, determined black ops soldier out for vengeance after being set up during a mission. Sounds like a female version of The Bourne Identity which was a pretty good book and movie.

The film, which recently wrapped production, was shot in Barcelona, Dublin, Ireland and New Mexico. “Haywire” is expected to be released January 2011.
