Happy Saturday to everyone as we gladly welcome a full slate of WPS action starting about an hour ago. Here are today’s Notables:

  • Due to a volcano and the nation of Iceland, the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League semifinal round between Umea and Lyon has been postponed. No word yet on when the match will be rescheduled

  • Kristine Lilly and Leslie Osborne sat down for an interview with Boston’s FOX 25. Check it out here

  • In on-the-field Breakers news, GK Alli Lipsher has been waived and Ashley Phillips (previously signed as a Developmental Player) has been promoted to become Boston’s #1

  • Giovanni Albanese, Jr. has his predictions for WPS Week Two over at Goal.com

  • Jack Bell has written another WPS-related tidbit on the New York Times’ Goal blog. In it he highlights how the league has enthusiastically embraced both social media and technology

  • The Brazilian site GloboEsporte.com has an article featuring Rosana. She discusses why Sky Blue FC are the team to beat and why she and Marta are different players. (Thanks to Marcelo at http://wpstalk.blogspot.com and his readers)

  • Speaking of Marta, the San Francisco Chronicle has this write-up about her. Marta, have you tried online dating?

  • The Philadelphia Inquirer has this to say about the returns of Amy Rodriguez and Heather Mitts to Boston tomorrow night

  • Some big news in WPSL land. The Midwest Conference will now be contested between two divisions. This is how the breakdown will look:

NORTH DIVISION: Chicago Eclipse Select, F.C. Milwaukee Nationals, Iowa Rush, KUFC Pursuit (Chicago), Madison 56ers.
SOUTH DIVISION: Carmel United S.C. (IN), Classic Hammers F.C. (Cincinnati), F.C. Metro Magic (St. Louis), Fort Wayne F.C., Ohio Premier Women’s S.C., St. Louis Scott Gallagher Elite

  • And Debra Taprikas will now serve as Midwest Commisioner. Trapikas has previously worked for 20 years with the USASA as well as being a referee, manager and a player.

  • Two days ago we quickly mentioned that AWK will now feature American Soccer Minute, a 60-second audio clip of WPS projections and results courtesy of Scott Reynolds. Scott will do the projecting for us every Saturday and the results edition will be released every Monday. We’re delighted to bring this to you. Here are the first two episodes:
