Attendance between Week 2 and Week 1 saw a slight 5% decrease. Boston and Chicago had pretty solid attendance figures with both teams surpassing their 2009 season average and median numbers in their debut home matches. FC Gold Pride recorded modest figures but filled 87% of the Castro Valley Athletic Stadium . Washington’s gate receipts were pretty shocking as their second home match against Atlanta saw a 72% drop-off from 2009’s season median, as well as a 46% decrease from last week.

The second column features home figures from this time last year. Here are the rest of the numbers:

Notes:

  • Both Chicago and Boston play in stadia with capacities of 20,000 or more so don’t be too concerned with the small capacity percentage numbers.
  • Week 2 attendances of 2010 and 2009 are very similar with an average of 4,210 people per game this year and 4,195 last year.
  • 2,665 is Washington’s lowest attendance in WPS. Their next lowest was for their ninth home game in 2009 which saw 3,123 attendess.
  • Thus far Philadelphia has had the highest turnout for any 2010 WPS home game with 6,028. Boston has had the biggest attendance out of the returning WPS teams – and despite wintery New England conditions. (Atlanta has yet to play a home debut as their stadium is still under construction)

Looking to Next Week:

FC Gold Pride will host Atlanta at the Castro Valley Athletic Stadium next Saturday. Is it fair to expect more attendance-wise?

Philadelphia will welcome Washington on Sunday. We’ll the Indie’s attract another 6,000+?

Sky Blue FC will visit Chicago at Toyota Park, who will be playing their second home match in a row.

And Saint Louis Athletica will play host to the Boston Breakers for the FSC match.

Please let me know if there’s something that’s either been omitted or is unclear.
