(Update: Thanks for the clarification, everyone. I figured something had to be up with Cheney and Chalupny. Curious to know what that the prior commitment is.)
Here’s what we’ve got:
GK:
Solo
Barnhart
Loyden
D:
Mitts
Rampone
Whitehill
LePeilbet
Cox
Markgraf
Krieger
Dalmy
Taylor
Buehler
M:
Lindsey
Boxx
O’Reilly
Rapinoe
Averbuch
Lilly
F:
Rodriguez
Wambach
Morgan
- Wow at the exclusion of Lauren Cheney and the inclusion of Alex Morgan. Cheney had a fantastic Algarve Cup and a nice turn in the Mexican friendlies in March. Morgan is an outstanding athletic forward with excellent technique but this is still a little suprising, no? Perhaps Coach Sundhage likes the versatile tandem that Wambach/Rodriguez brings with speed and size. Or perhaps it’s Cheney’s lack of goal scoring recently in Boston although she and Rodriguez have scored the exact same amount of goals. Wonder what she’s thinking right now being overlooked for the sake of a college junior.
- Nice to see Lilly and Lindsey in the squad. The latter fully deserves it.
- The WNT is absolutely loaded at the center back position. Which pair will get the start?
- No Chalupny?
- Would have liked to seen Nogueira and O’Hara but this probably isn’t the right match to experiment with a new system. Rapinoe and Lilly will probably be center stage on the flanks.
- Brittany Taylor has fast become the WNT’s brightest defensive prospect.
More reaction later. What are your thoughts?
