Turbine Potsdam’s 17 year-old goalkeeper Anna Felicitas Sarholz played the part of hero again, as she stopped two crucial penalty kicks after a goalless draw in regular time. Lyon had the clearest opportunities in the first half as Sarholz stood tall against the likes of Louisa Necib, Elodie Thomis and Adamine Henry.

In the second half, Turbine Potsdam began to take control of the match as Fatmire Bajramaj proved quite difficult to contain. Anja Mittag and Nadine Kessler also troubled Lyon’s goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi but to little avail.

Bouhaddi came up big twice again in extra time and seemed determined to lead her team to its first shares of European glory. However, it was not to be and after Elodie Thomis missed the decisive spot kick, Turbine Potsdam were the winners. This is the club’s second European title.
