5.) How Will Philly Fare Against FCGP Without A-Rod?
And Lindsey and Larsson. Philadelphia had the bye last weekend so the team wasn’t affected by the first round of national team call-up’s. Now PHIINDY will need to deal with three gaping holes in its first-choice starting XI. Amy Rodriguez has been the light of the team thus far and this is the first game she’ll miss of the 2010 season. The Independence will be travelling to the Bay Area on Saturday. The team has only managed one road win all year so the cards will be stacked against them in this one.
4.) And Will It Be Yet Another Blowout For FCGP?
FC Gold Pride have scored 7 goals in the past two games. The last time FCGP and Philly met Gold Pride won the match 3-1 with two goals from Marta and one from Christine Sinclair. Both players will be present on Saturday. They’ll be sure to test Philadelphia’s somewhat spotty back line as well as Karina LeBlanc who just isn’t the same player she was last year. If Philadelphia has any intentions of moving up the table, this one can’t be a rout.
3.) One Team Is Heading Up While the Other Is Going Down. Who Is Who?
The Washington Freedom have been winless in the past five games while the Boston Breakers are currently on a two-game winning streak. Both teams will be without both their favored strikers and their first-choice midfielders. One team will be without a coach. Each teams have met twice before. Boston won the first encounter while Washington won the second. Boston could make up some serious ground in the table with a win at home, as they sit just four points from Washington. And thankfully the game will be televised on FSC. After months and months of merely speculating what this Boston team looks like it’s finally time to see them with our own two eyes.
2.) Which Team Will Be More Defensively Frail: Atlanta or SBFC?
Hope Solo is away as is Kia McNeill. The team has conceded eight goals in the past three games. While Kristen Luckenbill has been fair in goal, typically-dependable Daphne Koster beat her last weekend with an own goal. And on the flip side, Sky Blue FC haven’t scored a goal in nearly three weeks while Atlanta hasn’t won a game in what seems like, well, forever. It will truly be a battle of the two least-attractive teams in WPS.
1.) Who Will Step Into the Spotlight This Weekend?
With the USWNT gone once again, players that are typically flying under-the-radar will have a second opportunity to shine. Last weekend it was Jordan Angeli and Liz Bogus for the Boston Breakers and Nikki Marshall for the Washington Freedom. Which “role” player will step out of the shadows this weekend?
