After some wild weather in Philly, the Cheesesteaks’ no. 10 is back with her account of the recent going-on’s with the Independence. She tells us why it was extra special seeing Manchester United play in Philadelphia and how she’s getting involved with Project Pink and another initiative in Honduras.
Hi guys sorry for the delay. We have had the internet down at the apartment. It’s been down since we had the tornado warning which was pretty scary.
But luckily it didn’t come close enough to hit us fortunately.
A lot has happened since I last wrote! We have had so many exciting games and one particular stands out which was the Sky Blue game at home. Everything just clicked that day we scored some great goals and my Swedish sister Seges played so well she got three assists. Also my strike partner A-Rod is having a phenomenal season and I love the understanding we have up front. I feel like we have a great connection and I love playing with A-Rod. I think at the moment we are starting to play our best soccer and everybody is starting to click just at the right time, from front to back.
I really do love playing in this team. We all have each others’ backs from the staff to the players and whoever is playing we want each other and the team to do well and at this crucial part of the season I think it’s going to be a huge part in us doing well. We have scored seven goals in two games recently and only conceded one goal! I’m now writing to you from Washington so hopefully this form can continue.
Also something I’m really looking forward to is our game against the Boston Breakers. Of course I’m looking forward to the game itself but also I’m looking forward to wearing our pink kits in raising awareness of breast cancer because I think it’s important for everyone to realize that we are female athletes and we are trying to help raise the awareness and make people go and get checked or to check themselves regularly because it is so important.
So if you’re around on Sunday at 8pm at West Chester University then wear pink and come and be loud for the Independence!
I really do love my life in Philly as well as playing for the greatest team in the world. I get to go and do some amazing stuff and travel to some amazing places. In the last month I have been kayaking and tubing. I nearly swallowed the whole lake but it was fine because it was so much fun : ) We even saw a bear. Also Independence day was a blast. I went to the art museum and the Goo Goo dolls were playing and the fireworks were beautiful. It was a perfect night.
Philly has enabled me to do some amazing things and meet some amazing people along the way. Also in the past two weeks the greatest team apart from the Independence were in town! Yes, Man United came to play against the Philadelphia Union. It was like birthday and Christmas rolled into one…I have missed them so much : ) And to get to see them in Philly was like a dream and for a lot of my team mates to see them to was fantastic. It was a great night and Dimitar Berbatov played which was amazing!
We have had a lot of bye weekends because of St. Louis unfortunately not having a team anymore. But we have still trained and have had the odd weekend of to chill and hang out which has been fun. Not to mention the weather but it has been soooooo hot this past month! The sky Blue game and Boston were ridiculous. I felt like I was going to pass put and throw up at half time ; ( lucky Holly – the best trainer in the world – was on hand to help us all but I feel like we are getting used to the heat now we have been here for so long. I can’t believe how quick the season is going I don’t want it to end. I’m having such a great time!
Another opportunity that has come up is a trip to Honduras. We’re helping people who have been physically or mentally abused, which is something I have always wanted to do because I want to help others, I’m not saying I can help everyone but I would like to help whenever and however I can so hopefully I will go on this trip at the end of season.
Being a professional soccer player here enables me to solely concentrate on playing instead of other distractions and I love it. We are coming to the last crucial part of our season: play-offs,championships. It’s so exciting : ) And I can’t wait for us to hopefully bring the championship home to the Cheesesteaks. Thanks to everyone for there continued support for the Indy. Hopefully see you at the next home game Sunday against the Breakers.
For now I’m all out. Have a great week!
Love from your Independence no.10 Lianne xx
