The USWNT is set to face China in Kennesaw, Georgia on Saturday, October 2nd and in Chester, Pennsylvania on Wednesday, October 6th. This will be the final set of fixtures before the USWNT heads to Mexico for the 2010 Gold Cup beginning October 28.

This will be the first set of USWNT friendlies since the team met Sweden in early July. These matches also represent a move to smaller, soccer-specific stadiums. Kennesaw State University Stadium is home to the Atlanta Beat and seats 8,300. PPL Park opened this June and is home to MLS’ Philadelphia Union. The stadium has a capacity of 18,500.

The USWNT have not played in the Atlanta area in 11 years. The team played at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on September 13, 2008 before 13,176 fans, which stands as the highest attendance figure the USWNT has attracted stateside since.

China haven’t played a match since May 27th of this year when they lost to North Korea in the 2010 AFC Women’s Asia Cup, thereby failing to qualify for the 2011 Women’s World Cup. This marks the first time China has ever missed out on qualification for a Women’s World Cup. They automatically qualified in 2007, as they were the host nation.

Head coach Pia Sundhage will hold a camp beginning September 20 for players not involved in the WPS Championship game which will be held six days later. The WPS First Round playoff match between the WPS teams that finish third and fourth will occur on September 19. The WPS Super Semifinal match between the First Round winner and the second placed team will take place either on September 22 or 23.

The match in Chester will be televised on ESPN2.
