Central Michigan's Shay Mannino Will Be In The Spotlight Against West Virginia
Indiana vs Nebraska (12:00)
Two programs from big conferences that have endured shaky starts to their season. Indiana were hardly convincing against Western Michigan in mid-week, just a few short days after dropping a 2-0 decision to Kentucky. Nebraska is still trying to erase the taste of a bitter defeat to New Mexico on opening night out of its mouth. The winner will have a little reason for optimism for the rest of the season while the loser could very well be seeing their season circle the drain.
North Carolina vs Tennessee (1:00)
A few moons ago, this would’ve been a match between two of the southeast’s premier programs. Now, it’s likely just a coronation party for Anson Dorrance grabbing his 700th win. The Vols have fallen hard and any doubts as to whether they had righted the ship were seemingly confirmed when they were defeated fairly easily by Maryland in Knoxville. It would take something very special for Tennessee to get anything out of this one.
Boston University vs Boston College (2:00)
This was probably nothing more than a speedbump in BC’s path until the Terriers tattooed Washington on Sunday night. BU played Stanford and South Carolina tough before a pair of 3-0 wins last weekend, and the Eagles can’t be looking past their cross-town rivals. BC shouldn’t be tested seriously after this match until they head to Rutgers for their final non-conference test.
Oklahoma vs Colorado College (2:00)
Oklahoma have gotten off to a decent start with a pair of wins over Tulsa and Stephen F. Austin and looked respectable against Oklahoma State in their opener. They’ll get a big test with Colorado College coming to town. The Tigers recovered from their shock defeat against Boise State with a comfortable mid-week win against Wyoming. If the Sooners want to make an impact in the Big XII this year, they should be able to get something out of this match.
West Virginia vs Central Michigan (7:00)
OK, Central Michigan, you’ve got one more shot at this. The Chippewas came up short against Iowa in one of their biggest tests of the non-conference season but get another chance to prove that they’re more than just a bully of the MAC against West Virginia. If CMU can’t get a result here, it’s difficult to envision them being in with a sniff of an at-large bid at the end of the season. The Mountaineers figure to be a tougher test and will be eager to erase the memories of a defeat by Ohio State in their last match.
Denver vs Colorado (9:00)
An always tasty non-conference state derby between these heated rivals has more importance this year with Denver dropping a surprising match to Loyola Marymount in their first match of the season. The Pioneers can’t afford too many more slip-ups in non-Sun Belt play if they want to hold out hopes of a possible at-large bid. This will be Colorado’s first serious test after two gentle matches to open up the season. How Colorado’s new look offense handles the Denver defense will likely tell the tale on the evening.
