We’re through roughly 25% of the regular season in the college soccer season and fifty-eight teams (roughly one in six of the nation’s teams) have won at least four matches. But who’s been feeding off of low hanging fruit and who’s been pummeling stiff competition? With the unadjusted RPI feature being turned “on” on the team pages of the Composite Schedule/RPI resource, it’s made it a lot easier to look at the “value” of a team’s wins. So yours truly went through everybody that’s won at least four games up to this point and averaged the unadjusted RPI of all the teams they’ve defeated.

Obviously there is the big flaw of teams with less than four wins not being averaged in, which eliminates teams like Stanford, Boston College, and Arizona State. But nonetheless, I think it’s a good companion statistic to look at with the litany of polls being released to see who may be cruising by on reputation and who may be getting the shaft, at least statistically speaking.

Flat Track Bullies – Eleven Teams With The Weakest Collection of Wins

Austin Peay – 280 (Unadjusted RPI Average of Teams Defeated)
Texas-San Antonio – 267
Nicholls State – 263
Louisiana Tech – 255
Providence – 242
Georgia State – 236
North Texas – 235
Southeastern Louisiana – 232
Mississippi State – 224
Ball State – 223
Iowa State – 223

Big Conference Flat Track Bullies – Ten BCS Conference Teams With Weakest Collection of Wins

Providence – 242
Mississippi State – 224
Iowa State – 223
Iowa – 220
South Florida – 214
NC State – 205
Rutgers – 203
Florida State – 190
Cincinnati – 185
Nebraska – 185

FSU and Cincy are the big names here. FSU is still getting a lot of love from the polls, Cincy is highly ranked in Soccer America.

Juggernauts – Ten Teams With Strongest Collection of Wins

Notre Dame – 24
North Carolina – 53
Portland – 65
San Diego – 66
Oklahoma State – 77
Minnesota – 96
BYU – 112
Louisville – 115
Texas A&M; – 116
Wake Forest – 124

Moral of the story? San Diego? Not so bad. Minnesota? Should be ranked higher by other polls. Louisville? May actually be better than I give them credit for.
