Great piece in the New York Times that outlines a study of endurance in female and male cyclists. After consuming protein, the performance of males in a long race improved, while with females it was the opposite: their performance rose after taking in carbohydrates.
The thing that kills me is that women had to ask to be studied; the researchers were going to simply let the results of the men-only trial stand for everyone. They were assuming females and males are exactly the same. But anyone who uses strength training equipment at a gym or health club shouldn't be surprised, as it's all made for men and often doesn't fit small women well at all. People like to shove women under an umbrella that usually doesn't fit them.
What are some differences in female and male basketball players that should be studied?
