It’s hard to tell exactly what happened, but in the end Melissa “Huracan” Hernandez did not fight Holly Holm last night as expected. Instead, Victoria Cisneros (3-8-2), a local Albaquerque Jr. Welterweight was pulled from the audience to take Hernandez’s place in the fight. Cisneros lost the fight but made a fair showing.

Hernandez released a statement that indicates some of the agreements both teams had made were not adhered to, particularly one in which the corners were to watch each boxer’s hands being wrapped.

The situation isn’t entirely clear but one thing is certain: fans didn’t get to see what might have been a great match-up.

I wonder if the entire thing was a publicity stunt. The story has already received more media attention than Christy Martin’s last title fight. I would still love to see these two fighters mix it up, but it’s hard to tell if that will ever happen.
