USAOutdoorTFChampionshipsEDITOR'S NOTE: AnnGaff and LesleyHiggins are writing these previews for the USA Track & Field Championships, taking place this weekend in Eugene, OR, based on their firsthand Track & Field experience. Gaffigan and Higgins competed against each other in college, with Gaffigan representing the Nebraska Huskers and Higgins representing the Colorado Buffs. Both women competed last year in the 3000m Steeplechase at the Olympic Trials. This year, the two are spectators-from-afar of the USATF Championships/World Team Trials; Higgins is out with a broken foot and Gaffigan gave birth to a baby girl in May.

Top 10 entry throws:

Michelle Carter 18.85m
Elizabeth Wanless 18.64m
Jillian Camarena 18.51m
Kristin Heaston 18.34m
Sarah Stevens 18.00m
Jessica Pressley 17.93m
Karen Shump 17.41m
Chandra Brewer 17.28m
Adriane Blewitt 17.18m
Jordyn Brown 16.85m

My Picks:

1. Michelle Carter
2. Jillian Camarena
3. Elizabeth Wanless

Michelle Carter has the longest throw coming into the meet and was the 2008 Olympic Trials champion. She took home the win at the Reebok Grand Prix this year with a throw of 18.43m (60-5.75ft). Elizabeth Wanless was 3rd at 2005 and 2006 USA Outdoor Championships, but failed to make the Olympic teams in 2004 and 2008. However, she threw her qualifying mark of 18.64 this season, which is the best mark among the Americans this year.
