Franklin, born May 10, 1995, is an American swimmer. She had a great 2010 season. She was the youngest member of the USA team at the Mutal of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships in 2010. That same year she finished 2nd in the 100m and 200m backstroke at the ConocoPhillips National Championships. While there, she was also awarded with the Kiputh High-Point Award for the top female swimmer at the meet. She took home silver at the 2010 FINA Short Course World Champs in the 200m backstroke. She also won the 2010 Golden Goggle Award for "Breakout Performer of the Year." She was the 2010-2011 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series champion.

In 2011 at the ConocoPhillips National Championships she won the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke. At the Class 5A state Swimming and Diving Championships in 2011 she broke Natalie Coughli's national 100-yard backstroke record (52.86 seconds) which stood since 1998. Franklin hit the wall at 52.30 seconds. She also finished 4th in the 200m IM. At the 2011 FINA World Championships she scored big. She took home 5 medals, including 3 gold (in the 200m backstroke, 4X100m medley and 4X200m free).

Franklin qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games after winning and setting a new American Record the 100m backstroke, winning the 200m backstroke and taking second in the 200m freestyle and 100m freestyle. She will represent the U.S. in the 100m and 200m freestyle, the 100m and 200m backstroke, the 4X100m and 4X200m freestyle relays and the 4X100m medley. 

At the London Olympics, Franklin took home 5 gold medals (100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 4X200m freestyle, 4X100m medley) and a bronze in the 4X100m freestyle. 

At the 2012 United States Olympic Trials, Franklin qualified to swim in four individual events at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. In her first event, the 100-meter backstroke, Franklin won the final with a time of 58.85, breaking Natalie Coughlin's American record of 58.94 seconds.[31] In her second event, the 200-meter freestyle, Franklin placed second behind Allison Schmitt by over two seconds with a time of 1:56.79.[32] In her third individual event, Franklin finished second in the 100-meter freestyle behind Jessica Hardy with a time of 54.15.[33] Her second-place finish came less than half an hour after swimming in the 200-meter backstroke semi-finals, where she finished first overall with a time of 2:07.91. In the 200-meter backstroke final, her fourth individual event, Franklin finished first with a time of 2:06.12.[34]
Franklin will compete in a total of seven events in London: four individual events (100-meter and 200-meter freestyle, 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke) and three relays (4x100-meter and 4x200-meter freestyle relays, and the 4x100-meter medley relay).[35]
