Kara Patterson is a professional track and field athlete who focuses on the javelin. In 2005, Patterson won a silver medal at the Pan Am Junior Games. She made her first Olympic Team in 2008 by winning the javelin at the Trials. At the time, she was still at Purdue University.

She signed with Asics upon exhausting her collegiate eligibility and in 2010 garnered international attention for breaking the American Record at the Pre Classic, throwing the stick 66.67 meters (or 218 feet, 9 inches).

In 2012, she placed second at the U.S. Track and Field trials, earning a spot on the London Olympic Team.
