Hope Solo chats about WPS and the Olympics

Solo is an alumni of the University of Washington where she was goalkeeper and was a 4 time All-Pac-10 selection and a three-time NSCAA All-American. After graduating, she competed with the Philadelphia Charge (2003). She was an alternate at the 2004 Athens Olympics. In 2007 she was the US goalkeeper in the FIFA World Cup. In the 2008 Olympics, Solo was the starting goalkeeper to the gold winning US team. Solo was named WPS Goal Keeper of the Year in 2009. In 2010, Solo signed with the Atlanta Beat. After the end of the season she underwent intense shoulder surgery. As of 2011, Solo plays for the magicJack out of Boca Raton, Florida. She is a member of the US 2011 World Cup team despite being out for injury for much of the qualifying campaign. She let no goals slip in the World Cup games against North Korea and Columbia, but conceded two goals in the game against Sweden that brought the US to second place in the group, setting them up to play Brazil in the quarterfinals. Later in the tournament, Solo stopped a penalty shot from France. This made her the 27th American woman (2nd goalkeeper) to hit the 100 caps mark. US took second, while Solo took home the "Golden Glove" and "Bronze Ball" awards.
