In Taurasi's early career she was awarded with the 2000 Cheryl Miller Award, presented by the Los Angeles Times to the best player in Southern California. She continued her career at the University of Connecticut where she was point guard and shooting guard. She lead the Huskies to three National Championships. Throughout her career Taurasi was awarded with many accolades including the 2003 and 2004 Naismith College Player of the Year awards, the 2003 Wade Trophy, and the 2003 Associated Press Player of the Year award. She was taken the #1 seed in the 2005 WNBA Draft to the Phoenix Mercury. Her first year in the WNBA, Taurasi took home Rookie of the Year and was named First Team All-WNBA. The following season she was named WNBA-All Star starter. In the off season, she went to Russia to compete for the Dynamo. She was selected to the NCAA's 25th Anniversary Team, named to her third WNBA All-Star Team, and leads the league in scoring. She broke the league's single season scoring record. During the summer of 2011, Taurasi will represent the US in Brazil at the Women's World Championships. Off the court, Taurasi is one of a few selected to have her own signature shoe. She also was featured on the cover of the 2010 ESPN Magazine in "the Body" issue.
