by The Glowing Edge posted November 8, 2009 at 12:44pm
And this, my friends, is why boxers wear gloves. That one dude’s arm is soooo gonna be sore. I also don’t recommend fighting on the stairs.
(Special thanks to @brauhze for finding this and thinking of me.)

Flight Fight Sports
by The Glowing Edge posted November 5, 2009 at 11:31am
It’s Google’s fault. I typed in “fight sports” and they asked, in that oh-so-superior voice, “Did you perhaps mean FLIGHT sports, Hon?”
No, you morons. I might misspell Hervé Villechaize but I’ve GOT this one, thanks. Sheez.
Anyway, I ...more

by The Glowing Edge posted October 24, 2009 at 8:27pm
The Australian Medical Association wants to ban children (under 18, do you suppose?) from boxing, and put strict laws in place to control the sport. One doctor in favor of the ban pointed to the injury rate in “non-contact sports” such as rugby and...more

Film Review: Girlfight's Foxy Boxing
by From A Left Wing posted October 23, 2009 at 9:13pm
Karyn Kusama's (gorgeous) film Girlfight climaxes with a "gender blind" boxing match, in which the film's central character gets into the ring and boxes her boyfriend. This has got to be one of the fascinating scenes in a sports movie. Before I go any fa...more

Sparring with the Pros
by The Glowing Edge posted October 23, 2009 at 12:34pm
When I walked into the gym for sparring on Sunday I saw not one, but two pro boxing women. In a sport with a sparse population of women, two female pros in one small gym is nothing short of amazing. Of course, my trainer Bonnie is one of the pros, and ...more

What Mayweather’s fight really means
by The Glowing Edge posted September 21, 2009 at 4:28pm
Boxing is stuck in the 20th century.
And I mean firmly stuck. You only have to see the meteoric rise of MMA to realize that the sweet science can’t, won’t, and actively refuses to keep up. And boxing has such history, art, legends, grit, beauty, s...more
