by Byline to Finish Line posted January 11, 2011 at 12:25pm
This was not the race I had planned.
It was not the race I had trained for or prepared for. It was not the race I wanted.
But sometimes we get stubborn in what we want. We get focused on getting things in only one way, one form. And the universe, well, i...more

The previous two days were spent eating cooki...more

Race report: Turkey Trot 2010
by Byline to Finish Line posted November 27, 2010 at 12:40pm
On the bus ride to the starting line, I turned to Sue and admitted what I was feeling:
I don’t want to race.
The statement came with a full pout that was both audible and visual in nature. I just wanted to run 8K, not race 8K. Couldn’t I have arrang...more

Race Report: The art of the P.R.
by Byline to Finish Line posted November 8, 2010 at 9:16am
My parents were perched on the top of the bleachers, giving them a view for a good quarter mile of the runners heading back toward the finish line.
“I think I see Amy,” mom said.
Dad looked at his watch, then looked up.
“No.”
“Yes,” mom sa...more

Race report: Chestnut Ridge 10K
by Byline to Finish Line posted November 1, 2010 at 1:04pm
In the distance was the red glow of the finishing line clock. The numbers were barely visible to my eyes, blurred with a mixture of tearing from the wind and sweat from my fleece headband. But one thing was unmistakable — the clock had not turned an hou...more

Baltimore Half Marathon Race Recap
by Run Girl Run posted October 18, 2010 at 5:41pm
Remember how I said I wanted to just take it easy during the Baltimore half? Go slow and enjoy the race?
Apparently when I try to go slow and enjoy the race I finish an extremely hilly course just 10 seconds slower than the PR I practically killed myself...more

Race report: Jensen Stables XC
by Byline to Finish Line posted October 18, 2010 at 1:52pm
The tone of disgust was unmistakable. On all fours, scrambling up the side of an extremely muddy hill, climbing over fallen tree logs, the voice came from behind me.
“Is this a joke?”
On the inside, I smiled.
I would have smiled on the outside, but...more
