A women’s bout between talented wrestler Michelle Ould and Golden Gloves boxing champion Munah Holland is in the works for Ring of Combat 37 on September 9th in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Verbal agreements are in place for the fight, though bout agreements have not yet been signed.
Ould has not fought since suffering an ankle injury in a May 2010 bout with future Bellator champion Zoila Gurgel. She is also booked to compete three weeks earlier in an August 19th bout for MEZ Sports in California. Holland, meanwhile, has won two of her three Ring of Combat fights to date.
Ould (4-3-0, 1 NC) brought a four-fight unbeaten streak into her fight with Gurgel last year and did well in the early goings, as she was able to take Gurgel down in the opening round and controlled position. However, an ankle injury eventually forced Ould to submit in the second round, giving Gurgel the victory and propelling her on to Bellator Fighting Championships. While rehabbing her injury, Ould relocated to the Team Quest camp, and she feels that the change in teams has been a positive one in preparing her for her return to competition, which will begin in August.
Holland (2-1-0) made her professional mixed martial arts debut last October and has already competed three times for Ring of Combat. She opened with a one-sided decision victory over Kim Couture before suffering a submission defeat to Justin Kish in December. After six months away, Holland returned last month and stopped Marissa Caldwell early in the second round. The standout striker also sports an 18-8 amateur boxing record, and went 3-1 in amateur kickboxing. Though she gives up an experience advantage to Ould, she should hold an edge if she can keep the fight standing.
The planned matchup between Ould and Holland will be Ould’s second fight in a three-week span. She will also face Christina Marks at MEZ Sports: “Pandemonium 5” on August 19th in Riverside, California.
Ring of Combat 37 takes place on September 9th at the Tropicana Resort and Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
