Two of the top prospects in the 125-pound women’s division will square off in the co-main event of Hoosier Fight Club 6 on January 14, 2011. Barb “Little Warrior” Honchak, who recently took part in the Ultimate Women Challenge competition, will face Bellator veteran Felice “Lil Bulldog” Herrig.
The featured bout will be Honchak’s first fight in just short of one year. She dropped a competitive decision to Ring of Fire champ Cat “Alpha” Zingano last January. Herrig, meanwhile, has won three straight fights and is coming off of a first-round submission of Amanda LaVoy earlier this month.
Honchak (1-1-0), who amassed an impressive 4-1 record as an amateur, made a big statement in her November 2009 pro debut when she submitted the previously unbeaten Monica Lovato under the King of the Cage banner. Honchak’s lone amateur defeat came via razor-thin Split Decision to NAAFS prospect Jessica “Evil” Eye, and her bout with Zingano in January was widely viewed as one of the best female fights of 2010. As she has throughout most of her career, Honchak will face another tough opponent in January when she takes on Herrig, who is also a veteran of a combat sports-based reality show.
Herrig (3-2-0) first became known for her time on the Muay Thai-themed Fight Girls competition on the Oxygen television network, but her striking pedigree did not immediately lead to success in MMA. Following a pair of hotly-contested Split Decision defeats, Herrig earned her first victory – and arguably her biggest to date – when she submitted Wand Fight Team prospect Michele “Diablita” Gutierrez last November. She has stayed on the winning track since, with victories over Jessica “The Ragin’” Rakoczy and Amanda “Knockout” LaVoy, but Honchak will likely be Herrig’s toughest test to date.
Hoosier Fight Club 6: “New Years Nemesis” takes place on January 14, 2011 at the Porter County Expo Center in Valparaiso, Indiana.
