Two of the top female fighters in Central Europe will collide on April 16th at WKF: “The Night of the Count” in Wr. Neudorf, Austria. Unbeaten Ukrainian Lena “Hunter” Ovchynnikova will battle Austria’s Jasminka “Cive” Dizdarevic in a WKF European Women’s MMA Championship bout at 124 pounds.
The talented kickboxers, both of whom also hold impressive records in Muay Thai and K-1 rules bouts, have made names for themselves on the European circuit and each fighter has already captured multiple titles. A victory in April could propel the winner on to bigger cards elsewhere in the world.
Ovchynnikova (6-0-0), despite possessing considerable striking skills, has thus far won the majority of her mixed martial arts bouts by way of submission. Among her six victories, she has used armbars to dispatch of four opponents and has proven to be more than capable of holding her own if a fight goes to the mat. With perfect professional records in MMA and kickboxing (8-0-0 in Muay Thai and K-1), and a significant fan following, Ovchynnikova is one of the most talented and popular female fighters in Europe today. The April bout with Dizdarevic will be Ovchynnikova’s second MMA fight in Austria.
Dizdarevic (2-0-1) is also an experienced striker and sports a 16-3-0 record in Muay Thai and K-1 bouts. She made her professional mixed martial arts debut last May and scored a first-round submission win over Ovchynnikova’s Union Gym teammate, Olga Denisenko; earning a 120-pound women’s title in the process. Like Ovchynnikova, Dizdarevic has also held multiple ISKA titles for standup fights. She most recently competed in a unique woman versus man fight in November and fought to a two-round Draw with Germany’s Danny Rapf in Austria, and will now face her toughest test to date.
While kickboxing is popular among female fighters in Europe, MMA remains relatively inactive outside of promotions in the Western section of the continent. However, the Ovchynnikova-Dizdarevic matchup represents one of the most relevant women’s matchups in Central Europe to date.
World Kickboxing Federation’s “The Night of the Count” takes place on April 16th at the Prince Franz Recreation Center in Wiener Neudorf, Austria.
