Hey Everyone,

So yesterday was my 1st day back and let me tell you it was a long one, to say the least.  It started in Long Beach at 8am…. I drove 2 hours to practice, due to traffic and a long commute.  Once I got to practice we started with a long run.  I wasn’t worried about that since I had been doing runs for the last few weeks, on my own, getting ready for training.  But as per usual you can never really be ready.  So we were going on the run I looked at my watch, and 5min had passed I thought ok not bad, then 10min passed I was still ok.  I knew we were on about a 2mile run so 10min means you are over half way done.  Then at 13min I approached this LONG hill, I was like hmm ok a little twist but not-a-problem.  We reached the top of the hill, and then it plateaued a little and another hill stood there waiting.  Man after that second hill my legs were shot!!!  My pace slowed down tremendously; however, I refused to walk.    Then as I continued down the path, another hill came and it was the last straw, after that, I just trotted in, it took about 19min to complete the run, which was not bad I guess for my 1st day.

After the run we then attacked hurdle drills!! And we drilled and drilled until my legs were going to fall off!! I’ve never done that many hurdle drills before, but I guess I will not be having hurdling issues this season.  We did not do all the drills since it was the 1st day but we felt the burn, and then we ended with speed jump rope.  By this point my legs were so dead I could barely jump rope, OMG how embarrassing.  Then I remembered what my training partner told me before training started stay within my self I am there to learn and that things will fall into place.  So I didn’t let the fact that I wasn’t the 1st one to complete the run, or that I was struggling with the jump rope get to me.  I mean heck it was only day 1!! I have a lot more to go.

Now once I was finished there it was about 12:00pm and I had 1 hour to get to Pasadena for strength training.  So my cousin and I hopped in my car and were pushing on down the road!! We got there about 1:10pm.  I walked in there half dead, but ready to attack another 1hr and a half workout.    As usual we hit it hard in there, doing exercises I had never seen and surely didn’t know they would have me sore the next day.  As I sit here typing this post in fact, my back and arms are sore.  We also attacked some similar areas as I did on the track, reinforcing the hurdle position and technique.  After weights I had one more thing to do…

By the time I finish with weights and ice up it was about 2:50pm, since I hadn’t eaten much by this point I ran to Trader Joe’s to grab a quick snack to hold me over.   I drove over to West LA to get my last piece of body work in, a little soft tissue and aligning nothing to major.  The hardest part was the 45min drive there, at this point it was 3:10pm and there wasn’t much I could do but get some food, and lay down.  After I was done with body work I headed to Downtown LA looking forward to eating dinner and shutting it down, and honestly that was pretty much what I did.

So yea I am excited about training and to see where this is going to take me…

xoxo MacKenzie
