Hey everyone, HAPPY NEW YEAR

Now since its a new year I thought to shine a new light on a subject that already carries its own weight and meaning…

So, around 7:30am while I was lying in bed, a thought popped in my mind that I decided I HAD to talk about!!! So as I laid there, I thought about women in sports and how important our participation is.  I mean, I know people often say it’s good for girls to be in sports because it builds confidence and character, and teaches responsibility, discipline, and teamwork but really it is MUCH more than that.  Women and girls, alike are not only building confidence for their futures in Corporate America, but their efforts are also motivating and inspiring women in the Board Room and Corporate America of today.

As women and girls are out there competing with and like the boys across sports such as, Tennis, Track, Swimming, Basketball, Rowing, and Beach Volleyball, to name a few, we are showing we are able to take command and control like any man out there.  We are setting records and making history along side the best of them, demonstrating that women are capable of making, good judgment calls, tough decisions, and executing tasks just like the boys.  These subliminal yet monumental actions are giving women in Corporate American fuel to do the same, whether they are sitting down at the round table with their male colleagues, or working on a team with a majority males, or even in the class room, in a subject that is “male” dominate, such as math and science.  Knowing that there is a girl or woman out there standing tall not backing down gives others that extra push to conquer their dreams and truly own their positions.

I often hear, that I inspire others, because I go out on the track, in my OWN lane, and race a field of 7 women, showcasing my abilities, nationally and internationally, with everyone watching; while, most people exhibit their abilities in private.  When you are on the track there is no where to hide, it is just you, your lane, and the other 7  individuals out there racing one another, but really racing the clock.  That drive, determinate, and fight that we as athletes have to be number 1 motivates and strengthens women in all professions and ranks…

So with that said, the involvement of women and girls in sports goes further than just how a single individual will benefit in the long run, but it extends to women’s advancement in the present.

xoxo MacKenzie
