An inspirational daily journal by a professional track & field athlete dedicated to her dream.

Hey Everyone,

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. As some of you may know I didn’t train today I spent the day recovering and catching up on some reading, which was nice. However, I am blogging tonight not so much because of what I did, but because I was inspired by my training partner 400m 2010 National Champ Greg Nixon (@gregtrack2012). Today on our day off, Greg volunteered his time to Habitat for Humanity http://www.habitatla.org. Habitat for Humanity brings together individual and group volunteers to ensure that everyone can live in safe, decent and affordable housing. It is always amazing to watch talented and successful people like him donate their time to the community. He was doing hands on work such as painting homes and interior construction, with the band Linkin Park. They were working on affordable homes for families. Seeing the light on his face and hearing the enthusiasm in his voice every time he talks about the people he is helping is always inspiring and exhilarating. The time and energy he is donating to Habitat for Humanity is making a significant difference in the lives others. Last time he went to a site, he met the family he was helping build the house for. That seemed like it really touched him and motivated him to go back and be more involved. He has always had a passion for building and designing homes, and the fact that he is able to be involved while pursing his track career has been a rewarding. It has been a great experience and he said, “I feel like I’m fulfilling my desire to give back. He is looking forward to expanding is scope and doing work with the organization in his home town of New Orleans one day.

I feel lucky to have someone like him on my team and in my camp, because his giving and caring spirit is a tremendous and motivator, and proves that no matter how focus you are on meeting your own goals you can always find a way to lend a hand to help someone else achieve theirs.

xoxo MacKenzie
