Hey everyone,

So, this past weekend was a learning lesson. I’m sure from the instant replay of my race it would come as no surprise to you that I was a little disappointed about my 400h opener. I was disappointed because I wanted to have a better first race than what I had, I know that I am in better shape then the performance I had on Saturday. Then after talking to my mom I realized something. She told me that these meets are just practice getting ready for the real show in JUNE, and that my coach was able to see things that I need to work that would only appear in competition. So after the race my coach and I went back to the drawing board, we know what I have and now we know what needs work. In addition, over the past few days I have been hearing from a number or sources, (radio, tv show etc…) that sometimes you learn more when you fail then when you succeed. And truly if I had run the time I wanted or won the race it is possible that I would over looked my mistake, and been distracted by my success which could then possibly cost me when it counts at USA Nationals. Which would be a bigger disappointment then this race, as a good friend of mine pointed out to me, it was my first race, and I have to remember what is important, JUNE-nationals, and that it will come. This meet has taught me to look at the bigger picture, and perfect my flaws. As my coach has already told me I can’t get caught up in what other people are doing or thinking or saying only in what I need to do to succeed. I don’t have time to spend any energy on anything but learning how to master the hurdles.

This week we have been really drilling those hurdles working on some of the weaker parts of my race so next time when I step on the track I will not have the same problem. One thing I can say that was the 1st time I alternated 2x in the race ;-) and I looked good for the 1st 300m!! I had to leave with an upside to my race, on a positive note. I’m also glad that I got out there and competed :-) talk to you soon.

xoxo MacKenzie
