So I have been slacking on my shopping in the running department lately. I have been only been doing some online shopping for a few random things for Christmas gifts (ahead of the game!!) and going to the grocery store. BORING! Deciding to run a half the day after Christmas over the weekend means to me that it’s time to get motivated which means it’s time to SHOP. HOLLA. This weekend I traveled out to Whittier to try out a new store called Runners Zone. I have heard good things and I like to make a trip out of my comfort zone every now and then to see what I can find in new locations.
I think that a lot of running stores are hit and miss. I feel that bigger chain stores mostly run off commission and they are going to sell you whatever they want too. I usually tend to like smaller running stores because I feel like they offer a better perspective and a lot of time, the people at the store are either interested in running or usually running for a track club or college team. This was exactly the case at Runners Zone. I walked in and was personally greeted and immediately was small talking with the person helping me about running and races. I was in the market for some insoles for my K-Swiss shoes, and even though they didn’t carry K-Swiss shoes there, it was easy to find the perfect insoles for my shoes with their help.
We talked about upcoming races and traded stories and it was a great experience on the customer service side. I know they also analyze your feet to make sure you are getting the right shoe and I did try on a few pairs while I was there. I’m a sucker for shoes and their selection didn’t disappoint, but thankfully I restrained myself. If it wasn’t raining out I would have for sure run around the location as well as I know there are a lot of great parks there.
Another thing I noticed while in the store was that they have great prices as well! I am for sure going to make a trip there the day after Thanksgiving for their Black Friday sale. It’s 75% off all clothing and up to 25% off on all shoes! Sheesh, looks like I’ll be picking up some sweet new gear for training in the cold. So if you live in the area, make sure to check it out! It’s The Runners Zone. 6729 Comstock Ave. Whittier Ca, 90601 or you can find out more information on their website, which is a work in progress: http://www.Runnerszonewhittier.com. They are open Mon-Thurs 10 am to 7:00 pm and Friday- Sun- 10 am to 7:00 pm.
I was rather impressed with the whole experience there and I know I’ll be there with bells on Friday morning, if I make it through the turkey trot in the next two days. :)
Le Sigh, I love running stores and getting new running gear!
xoxo
