Natasha Hastings is Set to Compete at the World Outdoor Track & Field Championship

Who: USA Track & Field and 2008 Olympic Gold Medalist Natasha Hastings, is set to compete with the USA Women’s 4x400M relay team.

What: Eight reigning world champions will lead Team USA into the 2011 IAAF World Outdoor Track & Field Championships. On the roster are a total of 19 World Championships medalists and 16 Olympic medalists. At the most recent 2009 World Outdoor Championships in Berlin, Germany, Team USA won a total of 22 medal, well ahead of second place Jamaica (13). Of the 22 medals, 10 of them were gold for Team USA, which was also ahead of second-place Jamaica (7). At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Japan, Team USA tied its own record from 2005 by winning a total of 14 gold medals and equaled the best ever for total medals won by an American team with 26.

Why: The World Championships in Athletics is an event organized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). Originally, it was organized every four years, but this changed in 1991, and it has since been organized biennially.
