Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League Open finals: Co-ed Teams Compete in Surrey BC April 8-10

Canada's best wheelchair basketball players will be in South Surrey, British Columbia this coming weekend.
A local British Columbia website is reporting that the co-ed teams will be competing starting Friday April 8 until Sunday April 10. The winning team will be crowned the national champion, at the 2011 Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League Open finals.


Current and former Canadian national team members will make up parts of all six teams.

A ceremonial tip-off will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, with the first game scheduled for noon. The gold-medal match is set for Sunday at noon. The tournament is being hosted at the South Surrey Rec Centre which is located in the South Surrey Athletic Park, 14601 20 Ave.

The Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League (CWBL) Open Division is a fully integrated league, featuring both male and female athletes with and without a disability playing together in a spirit of competition and camaraderie. The nationwide league begins in September and culminates at the league finals in April. Club teams from across the country compete in their respective conferences to gain a spot at the CWBL Open Championships] finals where the top teams vie pay the national title.

Canada will also be hosting the first ever U25 Women's World Wheelchair Basketball Championship on July 15th to 21st, 2011 at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.
